Adventures @ Menchie’s

I really really really like frozen yogurt. Being at UofT means there are A LOT of self-serve frozen yogurt places, especially down Bloor. I’ve heard people rave and rave about Menchie’s ever since the location @ York Mills and Don Mills opened. Much to my delight, I found that there was a location on Bloor street, within walking distance from the Cesspool! :D

Now, I’ve been to self-serve frozen yogurt places before (there’s one @ PMall) so I knew exactly what to expect at Menchie’s. But there were a couple of things I was excited about. First thing’s first, I heard they had RED VELVET FLAVOUR FROYO. Their red velvet didn’t disappoint. Either did they cake batter and vanilla flavours. However, I was disappointed with the pistachio which tasted more like mint and their cookies and cream which did not have a taste at all.

I also have to admit that different locations have different tasting frozen yogurt, even for the same flavour. The York Mills and Don Mills location DEFINITELY had better tasting frozen yogurt. They also have these great flavours like mud pie and mango sorbet. Yum.

Secondly, they said they had every topping under the sun and I must admit, they had a lot of toppings. Cookie dough, cheese cake chunks, brownies, SKOR CHIPS (<3 <3 <3) and a variety of other things. However, I was not expecting to see little tapioca look-a-likes.

I wonder what they were, so of course I tried it. They weren’t chewy, as I was expecting since tapiocas were chewy, but they were more like a burst of juice and the shell was chewy. They were really good. I now always put some of those delights on my frozen yogurt. And whipped cream. I love whipped cream.

Now, compared to other frozen yogurt places, Menchies isn’t exactly cheap.

It’s 55 cents an ounce compared to the 34 cents an ounce at Yutopia @ PMall. I also wasn’t incredibly impressed by the taste. I have heard good things about Yogurty’s so I think I will try that next time.

I am always on the hunt for good frozen yogurt places. If you’re in Toronto and have somewhere to suggest, comment and tell us! The Cesspoolites are whores for good food ;D

Love,

Wenders
